Okay, Thenandyr might be pretty close with this one… And now that I'm thinking of it, it might have been that even good mr. King did once mention them being a bit crazy…
But then again. How do you lose a Phoenix? "Yeah, you serve us until your final day." – "Okay. *Dies and is born again* So technically I'm free now?" – "… Yeah… I guess you are…"
And.. Again speaking technically isn't Friday immortal in a sense as well… I mean from what we've seen from different critters, they go crazy when they are not believed in and I think holidays just good poof or something when they are not believed in anymore, so… Do they kind of die or just cease to exist or something other? 'Cose unless you really die, aren't you pretty much immortal? And I'm thinking this way too much…
Many Holidays have died. We saw plenty of that in Volume 1.
Yes, from injuries and whatnot, but can they die due to natural causes? Or would they live on if they're believed in and no harm comes to them otherwise? 'Cose that's pretty immortal in my books. 😀
If you look at the extras/prologue stuff related to chapter one, there are some clues. Gaea mutated into the Easter Bunny over a course of centuries, as the 'belief'' about the celebration changed. So even though few people today have a clue about there ever being such a 'pagan' goddess, it is the observance of a connected topic–celebration of spring beginning–that gave Gaea/Bunny continuity.
(Which is ironic in a historical sense cause of the stories about King James editing the Bible and made decrees to replace Passover in the public consciousness with a pagan party because he was an anti-Semite. But I digress.)
So my guess is there has to be a Black Friday so long as enough people are aware of the significance of the start of the Xmas shopping season. In other words the Office of Black Friday is permanent as long as enough humans believe by talking/thinking about the observance, event, holiday, whatever. And though office holders can be killed they aren't going to age or sicken, or there would be new Santas periodically.
Interestingly, because of the mass-murder of holidays, a lot of humans became the holiday office holders (in my theory). We saw how Beth became physically more of a badass. Does her status mean she will no longer age?
The hamburger threw me into ice cream,
Are they talking about *the* Kane?
