Episode 245
If you are a new reader, you might want to subscribe to “Holiday Wars” as well as start reading it from the beginning. Once you’re caught up on the main storyline then checkout the side stories in “Tales of Holiday’s Past.”
And this is the last we will see of Earth Day. 🙁
aww this is sad page, but i still have to ask why did she say protect the tree, if the tree is dead, as she died since she connected to the tree that would mean she dies as the tree dies.. but maybe in her last second of life she knew what was hidden in the tree?
That's so sad. Maybe her life will help support the tree since it is one with the tree.
And Thus Captain Planet Appears.
seriously, that's the first thing you can think of? A series from the 80's and 90's that was about getting kids to be more eco-conscious.
(Shrugs) I haven't slept in two days in a row, so there is that.
I have an idea, but we'll need a wizard, a locksmith and access to the Tooth Fairy's castle.
You forgot the tub of "I can't believe it's not butter" on your list there Oren.
Actually, that was a reference to the movie Hogsfather. An assassin breaks into the Tooth Fairy's castle and bespells all the teeth, exerting control on the people they belonged to, draining their belief in the local version of Santa. Of course, the sudden excess of available belief causes new chimerical beings to pop into existence, such as the god of hangovers and the Veruca Gnome.
Maybe this has been dealt with and i missed it, but where are veteran's day and the 4th of July? it seems if there is a war to be fought, they would either be on the front lines or be among the first casualties.
Most likely as front line casualties that may be addressed in a future Holiday's Past.
Per the tally board, both fought for Haven and were killed.

Final Bad Breath Attack?
I believe the phrase is "Air Pollution".
first off, I love this comic. However, like most comics I enjoy, it makes me think, which always raises questions. Like: Can a holiday really die? If they come into existence as incarnations of the focused belief of mankind, as long as people celebrate the holiday, how can the incarnation really be gone? Previous to this war, holidays and even gods only disappeared once enough people forgot about them or stopped believing in them. What are the other world holidays doing? They apparently didn't object enough to being hidden to do anything about it. Are they going to just sit back and let two holidays decide the fate of every holiday in the world?
I think it's likely new holidays will be born with the same name since people still honor them. They just won't be the same ones. Different personalities, etc. It will probably also take time. Time they likely won't have since by then the Bunny might have won.
@ Oren, sorry I wasn't familiar with the reference. Didn't know it was a quote.
@ DarkMyste Just a guess, I think maybe Gaia gave her last energy to the tree to try and let it hold on a little longer. She died but it isn't quite dead yet. Noble but futile unless Tegan is able to fix it. Somehow I don't see her being able to do that.
Unless…………………..
I just had an idea. All of the good holidays that died have their spirits released into the tree with one exception so far as I know. (There might be more exceptions) By this I mean the ones that have not sided with the Bunny, not necessarily evil vs good in the usual sense. The single exception I can think of is Wallace, Arbor Day. Tegan's just noticed her nose is becoming larger and Wallace had a huge nose.
If she is the Holiday Spirit as many of us think, she might have absorbed his essence and be carrying it. The possibility I just thought of is, what if the Holiday Spirit is strong enough to resurrect those dead holidays from their essences?
Given Gaia's age and her status as one of the Big Six she would probably be aware of this. That might explain why she was giving those essences to the world tree, why she would sacrifice all her remaining energy to prolong it's life and why she would say to protect it with her dying breath.
If my WAG (Wild Ass Guess) is anywhere near right this just became a race indeed. The Bunny knows that destroying the tree is the only way to reveal their presence to the world. We found that out in the latest Tales of Holidays Past. Now that Gaia's gone, none of them except possibly Tegan know it's also the key to having a chance to defeat the Bunny. The funny thing about that is the most likely one to be able to save the tree is – Walter.
