Episode 237
If you are a new reader, you might want to subscribe to “Holiday Wars” as well as start reading it from the beginning. Once you’re caught up on the main storyline then checkout the side stories in “Tales of Holiday’s Past.”
Happy Halloween!
If you can’t guess, I love Holidays and I’m a pretty festive person. So we generally go all-out when celebrating. So this year when doing pumpkins I decided to make a Gronk pumpkin.
If you’ve not read “Gronk” you should check it out. It’s a great webcomic and even if you don’t like “cute” there are tons of pop-culture references that will still make it enjoyable.
I think my pumpkin turned out OK. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s cute and you can tell who it is supposed to be.
You are fine just the way you are Teagan, the girl that failed to retrieve the Holiday Spirit.
Yeah I'm starting to wish I had killed her off at the North Pole.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN or MERRY SAMHAIN!!!
But to the matters on hand: Teagan, would you like some cheese with that WHINE.
yesterday was Pastor Appreciation Day.
And now Teagan is past her appreciation day.
HA!
I just have to say this, Happy New Year
You've mentioned the one major Holiday that has never been mentioned in Holiday Wars before.
The reason why I said that is because Halloween is derived from All Hallows Eve, which in turn is derived from the Celtic holiday of Souen (pronounced Sow en). Souen was the Celtic new year, some of the neo pegan religions are bringing it back.
Does the death of a holiday clear up more belief to be spent on other holidays and mythical figures? (Can you tell I just watched Hogfather?)
"Hogfather" is great!
And that's one of the ideas I toyed with, but it didn't feel too logical to me with what I'm doing in Holiday Wars. Their power/life-force/soul/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is built from them being celebrated. As humans we celebrate multiple Holidays and there is no limit to how many Holidays we can celebrate.
For example, my best friend is engaged to a Jewish guy, but that doesn't mean she's not going to celebrate Christmas anymore. She doesn't have to choose one or the other. She can celebrate both.
Happy dia de los muertos And All Saints day!
Here is some interesting trivia…
In our mythos All Saint's Day is incorporated into Halloween, like Christmas Eve is mixed in with Christmas or how Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday are mixed in to Easter.
However Dia De Los Muertos is it's own stand alone Holiday.
My eyes got all big and weird my wife said … when i read your reply.
