Episode 219
If you are a new reader, you might want to subscribe to “Holiday Wars” as well as start reading it from the beginning. Once you’re caught up on the main storyline then checkout the side stories in “Tales of Holiday’s Past.”
Encase you don’t remember, when we were last in Haven (which feels like FOREVER AGO), Black Friday figured out that President’s Day was behind the killings and Gaia was in danger.
Don’t forget “Holiday Wars: Volume 1″ is on Kickstarter. We are offering tons of exclusive rewards and even if you can’t pledge then you can help by spreading the word.
Well that was pretty quick…
He's been dumping stuff since before the present day story started. So it's been awhile.
I get that but it hit her just at the right moment and not gradually.
What about her not knowing of the Wallace/Fool switcheroo? Seems to me she might not have been at her full capacity for awhile to miss something so huge as that.
Now that makes things have sense. Thank you sir.
Teddy let Friday walk away with only a minor thrashing?
Not all of my villains are sociopaths. Teddy just killed because people got in his way not because he enjoys killing. With his plan having come to fruition he had no need to kill Friday so he let him go.
Is that a fact? Is this word of god in how it went down?
Because it occurs to me that Teddy is good with disguises…
That's Friday.
Hypothetically speaking if that was Teddy pretending to be Friday then it would undermine and belittle the big Wallace/Fool reveal.
I guess that makes sense. But it still feels a bit off…
I don't think it feels a bit off. Presidents and business go hand in hand. I assume that Teddy is looking forward to a future where his side has won the war. And in such a future there could be a place for Black Friday.
Regarding the tragic fate of Gaia: No super powers for Radioactive Tree.
As I take another look at the page I notice two typos in the second panel: "Radioative" should be "radioactive", and "it's roots" should be "its roots". Just FYI.
I fixed the files. I'll upload the correct pages when I get a chance.
Before you upload, there's one more: in the last panel, "which have seeped" should be "which has seeped". The subject of the verb form "have/has seeped" is "radioactive material" (in Friday's speech bubble), which is [grammatically] singular rather than plural.
Not a typo. That's dialog.
Typos are my mess-up. What you are pointing out is improper grammar, which is OK because people speak that way. If you notice, the dialog in that bubble isn't even a proper sentence. It's a fragment.
Your comic, your choice. Gaia just never struck me as the sort of entity that would use improper grammar. Her voice in my head is very solemn and proper, for some reason. Not lacking in warmth, mind; just … correct, like an upper-class British matron. I'm not sure why …
And yes, the dialog in that speech bubble is a fragment, as written. However, changing the period at the end of Friday's speech bubble to a dash (ideally an em dash, actually) would correct this, because she's actually tacking a subordinate clause on to the end of his sentence.
But as I said, your comic, your choice.
😉
I agree. Gaia has always had a very proper almost stilted voice. For example she's never used a contraction when she speaks.
Although very subtle, the shift in her voice is meant to reflect her current state.
I changed it JUST for you TekServer.
(This would be a reply to Scott, if we hadn't hit the top of the reply tree … )
That's much better, thanks!
😉
I've been thinking: perhaps Roosevelt isn't a holiday at all. Other kinds of belief-based beings have existed in this world. Maybe Teddy got re-created by all the people admiring his face on Mt. Rushmore.
Good theory but one question…
In Volume 1, have we seen any entities other than Holidays or Humans?
Scott, ye best have a jolly Talk Like a Pirate Day! For this good day is not for scallywags but for yarr sea-men to enjoy! YARR!
Anyways, will Friday escape death for the third time? Both the bunny and Teddy said that he was not important enough to kill…………
That's kinda cold.
If I were Friday I'd probably have self esteem issues by now.
I'm just a little confused on something; isn't Gaia the embodiment of the planet? So wouldn't it make sense if she could do something to heal herself? Or at the very least, redirect the toxic waste somewhere else?
Mehhhhh… There is a lot of technobable stuff with Gaia. We've not really gone into yet. There is a ToHP story that will be showing up soon that will explain in more detail.
For now it's just best to know that for some reason her and The World Tree are linked. Thus harming the tree harms her.
