Episode 152
If you are a new reader, you might want to subscribe to “Holiday Wars” as well as start reading it from the beginning.
Here is your quick glance at Valentine’s Day. We will get a better look at her in an upcoming “Tales of Holiday’s Past” story. Basically she’s kinda a more frumphy/whiny version of Cathy (the comic strip character).
Not what I was expecting Valentine's Day to look like. … Can't always get what you want. C'est la vie. Ha, but I do like Halloween.
So what, Santa and Gaia are the only ones of the Big Six who oppose revealing themselves to humankind? Still, I'd take a pagan goddess as a manifestation of a holiday than a bunny. But I wonde what Halloween looked like way back when?
Not feeling the Cathy/Elton John look for Valentine's Day? Personality wise, she's a middle age woman who likes bad movies and reads a lot of self-help.
We'll get to see what they all looked like in not the next ToHP but the one after that. As for who is for which side… only Thanksgiving is supporting The Bunny.
I was expecting some form of Aphrodite or a shapely blond woman in a red dress with a bow.
Oh I can't wait to see more, I love this comic!
Which is exactly why I didn't want to go with a hot chick. I felt it was too expected. Plus thematically who is V-Day most marketed to? Even if she was once a hot chick, it's not who she would be anymore.
Different and unexpected is always good! I just thought that not correctly guessing Thanksgiving and Halloween, I MUST get Valentine's Day. Sadly though, I was wrong… again.
Come to think of it, she sounds and looks a lot like one of my teachers, and she's a LOAD of fun, witty comments and unafraid to badmouth whomever she deems worthy.
I've been wondering what the big deal was about the holidays concealing themselves. And now, "Ah-HA!" I love your reference to the defunct gods.
Like everything else in this series, Valentine is completely unexpected and utterly appropriate. Bravo!
I'm coming into this super late, and I know I shouldn't be asking questions when I have SO MUCH still to catch up on, but i've noticed most of these focus around American holidays. Obviously things like Christmas, Valentine's Day, and even Easter are celebrated the world over, but Thanksgiving is really only celebrated in America and Canada. Just how big of a pull does America have on the rest of the world in terms of holidays…
This also makes me curious about what holidays in other countries are doing. I'm imagining them sitting back and going "oh Jesus, there goes the Americans again, being ridiculous /sips martini." It makes me especially curious for places like India and japan where their old gods and holidays are still pretty much around/the same as they were since they began. I'm imagining them looking at the Bunny like "dude, don't drag the rest of us into this, this is America's problem leave us alone/out of this!"
As I said, I'm still super early so I've still got plenty of time to catch up and see if this is addressed and how, but I thought I'd put my thoughts down anyhow. I'm really enjoying this series!
