After Effects & Holiday Wars

I’m not sure how many of you know this, but one of my day jobs is working as a college professor.  I have two classes this semester: Cartooning & Advance Visual Computing.
Half of my cartooning class is in my computer class and they begged me at the end of last semester (when they learned I was going to be teaching it) to teach them how to make a motion comic.
So I incorporated After Effects into the schedule and prepped a whole bunch of lectures. The video above is a sample from one of my tutorials for them. Since it is “Holiday Wars” I thought you all might find it neat, even though it’s only six seconds long.
I see what you did there, with different layers moving & expanding at different rates to give the illusion of depth in the 3rd dimension.
😉
Nope.
I actually created a 3D environment with a moving camera. There is no moving of layers or expanding. Other than the Camera (and snow effects) nothing else is moving.
Thats how flash works… fake 3d. After effects uses a real three dimensioanl space.
Okay, you caught me. You both proved quite adequately that I know nothing about animation, especially 3D animation.
😉
