New Pantheon 1
If you are a new reader, you might want to subscribe to “Holiday Wars” as well as start reading it from the beginning. Once you’re caught up on the main storyline then checkout the side stories in “Tales of Holiday’s Past.”
Alright guys, we have something different for you. This ToHOP story is all prose with pictures to go along with it (It’s 7 episodes long). There were several reasons why we did this. The obvious being that it’s easier to get a few quick sketches from Micheal then it is to get finished work from a penciler, inker, and colorist.
The not-so obvious reason is that a big portion of this story is a considered to be a “talking head piece.” In prose it works but if we were to break the story down into comic book form it would end up being like 14 pages with the middle portion being nothing but talking. So doing it as a prose story made more sense.
Then finally we wanted to do a test run for the prequel novel. My goal is to spend November doing a massive re-write before I submitted it to my editors, but before we did that we wanted to see what it was like to have my words on the page with his sketches.
I’m not entirely happy with the layouts of this ToHP story, partially because I forgot I had to work with the regular “Holiday Wars” page size. Instead I had planned for the piece to be traditional book size. As a result some pages (like the one above) seem over crowded and some others seem bare. I’m not too worried about it though because at the end of the day the words matter more than the layout and this was just a fun way to do a test.
Too bad Eastre turns into a Psycho Bunny.
She does, but this story won't be the last time we see her. 🙂
Did Thanksgiving already exist then, but only become one of the big six when North America started celebrating him or her?
The cliche is that the first real Thanksgiving happened in 1621. However it didn't officially become a Holiday until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared it to be one.
In terms of the comic and the mythos I actually haven't decided when she was born as an observance. There is a lot of misinformation about the real history of the Holiday and because she has just been a side character so far I haven't taken the time to do proper research.
For this story however I do know she's not born yet.
I do have to wonder, All the other holidays are celebrated around the world in one way or another except for Thanksgiving. How did she became one of the Big Six?
this has been bugging me for awhile but….are there two thanksgivings? one for the canadian version and one for the american? or how does that work?
The plan has always been for them to be the same. Canadian Thanksgiving and American Thanksgiving happen on different dates, but they are close enough in purpose/the way they are celebrated that I didn't think there needed to be a different Holiday just for Canadian Thanksgiving.
Plus Canada was observing "feasts of thanks" before anyone in America did so theoretically Thanksgiving was born their first and I like the idea of thinking of her as Canadian.
thank goodness. I was worried you were going to pull an evil twin sort of thing there. :p
If you give a backstory on Thanksgiving, don't forget about Sarah Josepha Hale.
How did the idea of pantheons start in the first place, why have the
other supernatural beings left this world, and how did Holidays, etc,
come into being?
I can answer some of your questions. Some of them I can't.
For how Holidays come into being you should check out the "born a fool" side story. It tells the origin story of April Fools and is a nice example of how Holidays are born:

As for what happened to the Norse gods you can read about that in the "Old Debts" side story:

As for the rest of the Gods and how they came to be/left that hasn't been revealed yet and will come into play eventually (by "eventually" I mean not in Volume 1).
As for other supernatural beings, nothing has been revealed but we will meet a whole bunch in Volume 2.
Sorry I couldn't be clearer it's just a lot of the mythos you are asking about are things that have always been meant to be revealed later.
